There is so much noise when it comes to the dos and don’ts of social media – it can be hard to sift through all of the information. Here are five social media myths to pay attention to:
It’s unnecessary to post on social media every single day. Your engagement won’t drop from this but being inconsistent will. If you’re someone who posts here and there and goes for a long period of time without posting, this is when you will see a decrease in traffic and overall engagement. Spend more time creating quality content and develop a plan to spread out your content throughout each month.
Quality over quantity. You don’t need to be on every social media platform. Pick 2-3 platforms that best fit your business/industry and spend more time learning about those platforms. If you pick too many, you will most likely become overwhelmed which will allow your overall strategy to suffer. Plus, why spend time on a platform where your audience isn’t even hanging out?
A lot of businesses believe that social media is hard to track the progress. The key is to learn how to review your analytics and insights to better knowledge yourself on your audience and the content you are providing for them. If you can find trends within your analytics, you will learn how to better serve your audience.
If your goal on social media is to turn your followers into customers then you need to give away good content for free! How do you expect people to trust in you and learn from you if you don’t give them the opportunity? Giving away snippets of valuable information will turn your followers into customers.
You know the saying time is money? Well this is definitely true for social media. Having an account and posting a few pictures here and there won’t do much for your business. In order for it to truly be beneficial, you have to have a strategy in place and this takes TIME. Plus, if you don’t know exactly what you are doing you could be wasting your valuable time. Investing in someone to help with your social media or taking the time to learn will allow you to truly have success with your social media marketing.
Aside from time, utilizing paid advertising can also get you fantastic results when used correctly. A combination of good content, a strategy and a monthly ad spend can take your social media to the next level!
